Summary:
Rusty Croft,a professional sand artist might have beaten a new record of the World’s Largest Sandcastle. This sandcastle is 39 feet tall. This masterpiece was created only with sand and water. The Guinness World Record’s team had to travel to Brazil just to measure if it was actually the tallest sandcastle.

Opinion:

Is This Funny Or What?

SUMMARY
My favourite movie from the Manaiakalani film festival was from the school Stonefields. The title of the film was ‘Lazy Boy’.
This movie was about a boy who never got up to get the remote that was on the table. Instead he rings, texts, messages his mum to come and change the channel for him because he was so lazy. Suddenly he heard a voice coming from the T.V. and the person said LAZY BOY!!
Screenshot 2014-11-14 at 10.13.33.png

OPINION

When I watched this film I was laughing. I think that the actors acted really well and all the expression in the mom's voice cracked me up. I think the lesson from this movie is not to be lazy and get up and do it yourself.

Announcement At School:

I was at school and the speaker went on saying that someone is about to announce something really special. It said “Please make your way to the hall for a special announcement. There was silence and then everyone started pushing and shoving in the corridor trying to get to the hall to hear what the principal wanted to say.
Screenshot 2014-10-17 at 12.02.37.png
Two minutes later after being totally squashed I finally made my way to the hall just in time to hear the announcement. The principal was saying “There will be a 40hr famine challenge happening at our school. The student who hands in the most money will receive a special prize from the principal”. My heart was filled with joy just to hear that announcement. I then went straight to the office to get myself one of the 40hr famine plastic bags filled with all the information I needed to know about this challenge.
Once I got home I went straight to the kitchen but what I saw was that my whole family were looking at me holding one of their own 40hr famine plastic bags. We then decided to work through this challenge together.

Samoa's National Symbol.

Samoa's National Symbol.

This national symbol belongs to one of the Pacific countries which is Samoa. This symbol is called the Coats of arms of Samoa. I chose this symbol to draw because I come from the islands of Samoa. The english saying for what I wrote in my picture is 'Samoa is founded on God'. Samoa chose this symbol to be there national symbol because the shield in the middle representes Samoa's first independence day which was on June 1st 1962. The whole thing is described as 'The Public Seal Of The Independent Of Samoa'.
I drew this symbol because it remindes me of my family who died under the Germans Reign.

An 11 year old girl finds a good hiding place in a washing machine. But when she realises that the  game was over that she was stuck while playing with her cousins. She stayed hidden throughout the whole game. When she knew that the game had ended she couldn’t get out.
During the game her legs lost all feeling and she couldn't move them.  Her sister come to help her get out and tried putting butter, peanut butter and ice on her to make her slippery but she didn’t pop out. When her sister realised she was totally stuck she called for her mother and her mother came running with her aunt to help her. They tried to pull her out but they had to call 911 and firefighters came to help as well.

When I read the article I was  surprised that she could actually get herself into the washing machine and I’m not surprised she couldn’t get out!

Kiwi Sport Netball!!

Our first netball lesson with the Kiwi Sport tutor was awesome. We did warm ups that were jogging, skipping, shuffle running and then  criss-cross running. After we did our warm ups we moved onto the group works and we had to get into four teams on four of each colours that were on the pavement floor. When we got into four teams we had one hoop and one netball ball. We had to try and throw the ball into the hoop without touching it then we moved the hoop to the middle and then we had to put it over our heads.  We played a game with three people in each team and threw the ball to each other. The last game was just a game of netball.  Netball was awesome!!!

ALL BLACKS AND ENGLAND!!

Screenshot 2014-06-09 at 10.04.29.png
ALL BLACKS AND ENGLAND!!
Wow! The All Blacks and the England rugby game was awesome and it was a really close game. At the end of the game the score was 20-15 the All Blacks only just won. My family was watching the game but  all the kids were playing in the hall. The adults told us to stay in the front room to watch the game, so we did.
We watched the game until it was full time and the All Blacks won. When the game was over the kids went back to play in the hall while the adults were really angry and talking and laughing at the same time while being angry.

That was a really cool game but heads up for the ALL BLACKS!!

How To Make Pewter Jewellery.

On Wednesday 28 May 2014 we went to technicraft.  Mr Grundy was there and he said we were going to make some pewter jewellery. We were learning the basics of metals and wood  material. After we were introduced to what we were going to do we moved onto looking at the worksheet he set up for us. He said we had to fill it out before we moved on to actually working with the  hard materials.
We needed to choose a picture from Google images by typing in the word silhouette followed by the shape we wanted. The next step was to get MDF wood blocks. Mr Grundy printed out the picture he was going to use and said that we had to turn the piece of paper over and shade the back of it. Then we traced the picture onto the MDF wood but pressed a little harder. When we took the paper off the MDF wood we used our pencil to draw over it.
The next step was to take the MDF to the scroll saw and cut out the drawing. Then mark the outside of the drawing and finally it was ready for the pewter to be poured in.  After the alloy is poured in we waited for 5-10 minutes to let it cool down.  When it was cooled down we took off the rubber band and the two wood pieces that kept the MDF wood secure. We removed it carefully. Then we the pillar drill and drill a hole in it so the string could be threaded. When we had finished drilling we used a set of needle files to make the edges shine with a nice finish.
Use a 180 grit sandpaper and rub the pewter against the sandpaper. When we were finished the 180 grit sandpaper we moved onto the 400 grit sandpaper when we were done with that and move onto the 1200 grit sandpaper to give it a good finish. After using the grit sandpaper we used the grit sandpaper with water to give it a nice polish. When we had finished with the sandpaper we had to water wipe off the grit. After that we used the buffer to make it look like we hadn't  even make it.Then we used the brasso to give it a final shine.

Here is the video on how to make the pewter jewellery:

  • I will be sharing what I am learning, new knowledge and information relevant to my learning

We have been learning to make sure that our personal information like our home address and our last name is not on the blog.We will be sharing our first name and we could share our age but not our D.O.B (date of birth).
